| Description | ||||||
| Employment has serious social-economic and demographic implications. The country's economic and social employment play an important role in economic development. This study aims at investigating socio-economic and demographic determinants in employment status of disabled persons by gender in Myanmar using the data from the 2019 Myanmar Inter-Censal Survey (MICS). Descriptive statistics, Pearson’s chi-square test and binary logistic regression model were used in this study. The descriptive statistics showed that nearly 73% and 50% of the disabled persons were employment for male and female, respectively. The results of Pearson Chi-Square test described that statistically significant association between socio-economic and demographic factors and employment status for both sexes. The results of binary logistic model indicated that age group, state and region (Tanintharyi and Ayeyawady), place of residence, marital status, and participated in any community are positively significant impacts on employment status and state and region (Chin, Sagaing, Mon, Rakhine, and Kachin), having parents, disability status, educational attainment (high school), and get any support are negatively significant impacts on employment status of males disabled persons. For female disabled persons, age group, state and region (Kayah, Chin, Sagaing, Bago, Magway, Mandalay, Rakhine, Shan, and Ayeyawady), place of residence, getting any support, and participating in any community) have positively significant impacts on employment status whereas marital status, disability status, and educational attainment have negative effects on employment status. It suggests the need for awareness campaigns and support systems to engage parents and families in the employment excursion of disabled individuals. |
