| This study assesses health risks and associated groundwater quality in Mya Sein Yaung Residence, Hlaing Thar Yar Township, alongside public perception and awareness of contamination. Utilizing a descriptive analysis, water samples were tested for chemical and biological contaminants, and household surveys were conducted. Findings show two thirds of respondents attributing health problems to their water source and mostly reporting frequent clinic visits due to water-related illnesses. More than one-third, reported experiencing kidney problems. Awareness of contamination is high. Most participants understand the main causes of contamination, primarily industrial waste and agricultural chemicals. Despite receiving information or support from government agencies and NGOs, a few perceive their water as very safe. While concern and willingness for preventive action are strong, practical knowledge about water testing and access to official guidance remain limited. These findings underscore the urgent need for improved access to water testing, targeted health education, and regulations to reduce health risks. |
