Description
ABSTRACT : This research aims to identify how the two leadership styles of
managers, transformational leadership style and transactional leadership style,
affect job satisfaction of employees at INGOs in Sittwe, Rakhine State. This
study uses two stage sampling method to determine the sample size.
Among 26 INGOs in Sittwe, five INGOs (20% of total population) are
selected as the first stage. At the second stage, 242 employees are selected
as the sample respondents from the five INGOs by calculating with the
Raosoft sample size calculator. Primary data are collected from these 242
employees by using structured questionnaire with five-point Likert scale.
Secondary data are gathered from previous research papers, text books,
journals, and internet web sites. Data collection period was June and July,
2022. Descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis are used to
analyze the collected data. This study found that idealized influence,
inspirational motivation and individualized consideration from
transformational leadership style have positive effect on job satisfaction.
From transactional leadership style, management by exception (active) only
has positive influence on job satisfaction. However, management by
exception (passive) has negative influence on job satisfaction. Since INGOs
are not profit-driven by nature, if leaders strategically employ these
influencing factors in the workplace, followers and INGOs will gain more
benefits from intelligent leaders.
