Description
The primary goals of this research are to determine how participating financial
institutions (PFIs) implement the JICA Two-Step Loan (TSL) and to examine the
variables affecting SMEs' ability to successfully apply for and receive this kind of loan.
In this study, primary and secondary data were used. Through surveys of SME owners
from six PFIs in Myanmar, primary data were gathered. One hundred respondents, or
75% of the 134 SMEs in six PFIs overall, were included in the sample size. These
respondents were the proprietors of the SMEs in these six PFIs.Descriptive analysis
was used in conjunction with structured questions to perform the survey. According to
SMEs' statistics, the majority are private limited corporations, partnerships, and sole
proprietorships. The JICA Two-Step Loan is applicable to manufacturing, laborintensive
work, wholesale, retail, and services sectors, with service businesses and
private limited companies being the highest applicants. The analysis of major factors
influencing SME financing revealed that the majority of SMEs admit several condition
These include limited access to affordable credit, a lack of collateral, and insufficient
financial literacy. Additionally, the findings suggest that while financial literacy and
access to finance are not statistically significant in influencing SME performance,
capability enhancement and entrepreneurial orientation are more significant factors
influencing. These findings suggest that in order to achieve sustainable growth and
financial stability, efforts to enhance SME performance should focus on building
capabilities and promoting a strong entrepreneurial orientation. Recommendations
such as the JICA Two-Step Loan still need to significantly impact SME performance
in Myanmar by enhancing capability and entrepreneurial orientation, though they were
improving these financial strategies.
