It was dedicated by U Pho Kyi, a merchant of Salay to the honoured Sayadaw U Guna who flourished in 19th Century A.D. The monastery is called “Panpu Yokesone Kyaung” as it has various figures of wood-carvings illustrating the accounts from the Pali literature (Jātakas, Dhammapada Commentary, Peta Vatthu etc.) They are carved according to the instructions of Sayadaw U Guna. It is one of the centres of interest for the tourists. This paper is to expose the value and importance of this monastery. There are altogether 35 beautiful wood-carvings but some are now lost due to the vandals and dealers of antiques.
