| Electricity is one of the key components for the social and economic development of a country. Thus, electricity generation become the important role to shape the country development. The objectives of the study are to examine the trend of power generation in last decade, from 2010 to 2020 and to study the electricity demand, current situation and potential of power generation in Myanmar power system. This study uses secondary data to examine the power generation capacity and production of electric energy throughout the last ten years by the descriptive method. Then, it finds out that there is an unbalance of supply and demand in electric power generation and electric power usage. In addition, Myanmar's electricity sector is facing significant growth in demand but implementations of power generation projects are delayed. Therefore, this study suggests that Myanmar needs proper electric power generation mix, such as integrations of hydro, gas fired power plants, coal fired power plants which complies to clean coal technology, and renewable power sources. By doing this, it can be achieved for reliable, affordable and clean power for Myanmar power system, that can support and enhance the sustainable development of the country.
