Description | ||||||
In the present study, source plants of non-wood forest products were collected and identified. The most common non-wood forest products found in the study area are bamboos, gums, resins, thatches, flosses and brooms. A total of 12 species belonging to 10 genera and 4 families were presented with their respective products. Of these, bamboos, gums and resins are the most economic important non-wood forest products obtained from wild species. Major bamboo species are Bambusa polymorpha, Bambusa tulda, Dendrocalamus giganteus and Dendrocalamus strictus. The gums (Shaw-phyu-si) are obtained from Sterculia versicolor. The hard resin (Indwè) producing plant is Shorea siamensis and the resin natural lacquer (Thit-si) is obtained from Melanorrhoea usitata. The most common thatch plant is Imperata cylindrica and the flosses (Lè-hmot) are obtained from Bombax ceiba and Ceiba pentandra. The brooms are made with dried inflorescences of Thysanolaena maxima. Source plants of non-wood forest products were also presented with their botanical name, local name, family, parts used and uses. | ||||||
