Osteomyelitis of the jaws is associated with a complex microbiota. The two prominent causes are odontogenic infection and sinusitis. Osteomyelitis is an acute or chronic inflammatory process that can involve cortical and trabecular aspects of bone or bone marrow. Cranial bones are infrequently involved, but spreading of inflammation with involvement of surrounding structures represent the important risks, as are cerebral abscess, encephalitis, or meningitis. This study presents a case of osteomyelitis of maxilla involving multiple cranial bones caused by spreading of contiguous inflammation sustained by Acinetobacter baumannii.
