Description
When studying a foreign language, it is important for the language learner to learn about its literature and culture. In the same way, when studying the Japanese language, the learner of the language needs to know about Japanese literature and culture. High level language learners of Japanese are required to have language competency but also literary competence. This paper presents types of Japanese poems and analyzes well-known two children’s poems entitled “Soap Bubbles” and “Red Shoes” by a well-known Japanese poet in the Japanese Literature Society named Noguchi Ujoo. In this paper, these poems are analyzed to prove that it abides by the poetic rules of Japanese poems, denotations and connotations, image, symbols, and it actually represents the “dawn and dusk” of life that can be discerned through simple words used in the poem that can describe the main theme of the poem.
