In literature, legend is a traditional story which is associated with a particular person or place in the history. It includes elements of mythology and extraordinary past events. In Thailand, legends are accepted as the well-known folktales as Thai people have strong believes in myths and supernatural things. In the same way, there have been several legends which reflect the history of Myanmar culture and society in the past time. This study aimed to investigate the similarities and different between the type of Legends in Thai and Myanmar. Hence, the objective of the study are to categorize the legends of Thai and Myanmar; to find the common types found in both Myanmar and Thai; to find out the similarities and differences between the Legends in Thai and Myanmar. In this study, based on a conceptual framework for the classification of Thai legends and Myanmar legends (Saowalak Anantasarn, 2000, pages 142-143) which is included in the brief of The International society for Folk-Narrative Research Conference on 1963, the legends were categorized into 4 groups: Etiological and Eschatological Legends, Historical Legends and Legends of the History of Civilization, Supernatural Beings and Forces of Mythical Legends and Religious Legends or Myth of Gods and Heroes. The 154 Thai Legends and 154 Myanmar legends collected from books and interviews with the Myanmar and Thai people were categorized into the 4 different types. It is found out that the type which was commonly found in Thailand is about Historical legends and History of Civilization, but the Religious Legends or Myth of Gods and Heroes are the most commonly found in the Myanmar. It could be said that the legends are differed based on the believes and interests of local people.
