Anatomical characteristics of Camellia sinensis(L.)Kuntze belonging to the family Thaeceae were studied. Camellia sinensis(L.)Kuntzeis known as 'laphet or tea' in Myanmar. The plant specimens were collected from three localities of Pinlaung, Panglon and Ywangan Townships of Southern Shan State in Myanmar in 2018. The collected specimens were identified at the Department of Botany, University of Mandalay. In the anatomical studies, the small pieces of specimens were cut into thin sections by using a rotary microtome according to Johansen (1940). In the anatomical characteristics, the numbers and sizes of cells and thickness of cell layers were slightly different from one locality to another. The stomata were anomocytic type. The sclereids were observed in the petioles, laminae and midribs. The vascular bundles were collateral type in stems and radial type in root. The vascular bundles of roots were polyarch. Pith was found in roots of three localities. The similarities and differences of anatomical characteristics of these species from different localities in Myanmar would provide for the useful identification of the genus,Camellia. | ||||||
