They havetechnical difficulties associated with using them in thelanguage classroom. However, these days, languageteachers recognize the potential of the video films asa language teaching aid. They take advantage of thevideo films for teaching all four skills. The content ofthe film provides the opportunities for languagepractice. Moreover, language can be used to explorethe content. In Myanmar, where English as a foreignlanguage is actively used only in the classroom, videofilms offer excellent language exposure to studentsoutside the classroom. Videos make languagelearning enjoyable and fun. They motivate both thestudents and the teachers. The presenter explores thepossibilities of utilizing the video clips for languageteaching at tertiary level. Several video clips areselected and the content-based approach is used toteach first year students at the University of ComputerStudies, Panglong. The video clips are used not onlyto teach language but also to release it from thestudents repertoire. The tasks are carefully plannedbeforehand and the students’ knowledge of thevocabulary and topic are checked. Several tasks suchas video review, alternative ending, and summarywriting are given.
