Driverdrowsiness has been one of the major causes ofroad accidents and can lead to severe physicalinjuries and deaths. This thesis presents a visionbased driver fatigue detection system for drivingsafety and produce timely warnings that couldprevent accidents via android application. Amethod for detecting sleepiness in drivers isdeveloped by using a smart phone camera thatpoint directly towards the driver’s face andcapture from the color video. In first step we usecolor space for drivers’ face detection. Colorimages with skin color in the chromatic and purecolor space YCrCb, which separates luminanceand chrominance components. Then,mathematical morphological operators are usedto remove noisy regions. Blob detection finds themaximum blob. Edge detection is employed tolocate the regions of the driver’s eyes, which areused as the templates for eye state recognition insubsequent frames. The template is correlatedwith different regions of the face image. Theregion of face which gives maximum correlationwith template refers to eye region. The method issimple and easy to implement.
