Description
This paper presents the kind of justice seeking behavior seen among Myanmar citizens and nationalities. The paper discusses the plural justice that they favor and the kinds of identity that prevail among them. Particular subjects include the concept of pluralism in society and legal pluralism in Myanmar, why people solve their problems by approaching issues in different ways, what kind of justice they can get, and settings available for getting justice. This analysis addresses the questions “What is the nature of justice which is derived from different forms of justice seeking, and in different spaces?”, “Who are the winners and losers from different types of justice seeking?” and “What kinds of understandings of Statehood and Citizenship are reflected by different forms of justice seeking?” Descriptive, narrative and comparative research designs were used. Sources included key informant interviews and library research. The research finds that the government did not permit to apply their respective traditional and customary laws under its exclusively controlled areas but most people prefer to choose their ward or village tract level administrator’s decisions.
