Abstract Service sector today dominates the overall economic act1v1t1es around the world. Especially, health care services are very essential to the society. With the growth of private health care facilities in Myanmar especially in Yangon area, it is important to assess the quality of services delivered by these facilities. In particular , it is important to determine how the quality of services in private clinics and hospitals is compared to that of public hospitals. Theoretically , private special clinics would be more motivated than public ones to provide quality service to patients to meet their needs more efficiently and effectively because they are profit driven and depend on income from clients (i.e. market incentives). But in practice, a more detail study is needed to confirm this belief. Therefore, the premise of the study is concerned with the quality of special clinic services that would be perceived by patients. It is found in the study that overall service quality of the clinics in the survey need to be improved. Upon five dimensions of service quality judged on the services offered by th.e clinics, most of the clinics are poor in reliability dimension, assurance dimension and empathy dimension. Most .of the patients in the study judge "reliability" as the most important factor in judging service quality of the clinic. However, this dimension i s not as good as it sh ould be in practice at the clinics in the survey. |
