Occupational hazards are a significant concern for workers’ health and safety in industrial environments such as No. (10) Military Heavy Industry in Meikhtila. This study aimed to assess the awareness of occupational hazards among workers and to evaluate the effectiveness of a structured health education intervention in improving their knowledge, attitudes, and practices. A descriptive study method was used, focusing on 200 workers selected from a total of 590 in various production and maintenance departments. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire specifically designed to assess knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) regarding occupational hazards, both before and after the educational intervention. The study found that respondents initially had limited knowledge of different hazard types, improper or inconsistent use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and weak compliance with established workplace safety procedures. Although many workers expressed a generally positive attitude toward occupational safety, a number of misconceptions and unsafe practices continued to exist. The findings indicate that the health education program successfully led to notable improvements in knowledge and safer practices, including more consistent use of PPE and increased awareness of workplace risks and responsibilities. However, changes in attitudes and sustained behavior were less pronounced and appear to require ongoing reinforcement, supportive supervision, and continuous engagement from both management and workers to create a lasting culture of safety within the organization. |
