This study aims to examine the individual \nmedical expenditure of the Tanintharyi Region. In particular, this study addresses \nthree modeling issues: (1) non-normal distribution, (2) non-constant variance of the \nerror, and (3) mass of zeros. Using the data source from Myanmar Living Condition \nSurvey (MLCS) 2017, individual health expenditure is modeled with use of hospital \nfacility, use of medical service, age, gender, and location. Ordinary least squares \n(OLS) with robust standard error and generalized linear model (GLM) with different \ncombinations of link function and statistical distribution are used to address the first \ntwo modeling issues. Two-part model with logistic function for the first part and \nGLM for the second part is used to accommodate the third issue. Estimation results \nindicate that use of hospital facility, use of medical services, and age are significant \ndeterminants for individual medical expenditure. Moreover, the effect of the use of \nmedical services and hospital facility are dependent on the level of age. This study \nsuggests that the universal health insurance could be a potential solution to mitigate \nthe risk of an enormous medical expenditure and a comprehensive strategy that \nintegrates medical treatment, lifestyle changes, community assistance, and \nprecautionary steps can greatly improve the well-being of elderly individuals."}]},"item_1583103120197":{"attribute_name":"Files","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_access","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2024-09-30"}],"displaytype":"preview","filename":"Ei Thu Thu Htet Roll no 4 MAS 4th batch.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"587 KB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_0","url":{"url":"https://meral.edu.mm/record/9891/files/Ei Thu Thu Htet Roll no 4 MAS 4th batch.pdf"},"version_id":"f3e51616-554a-43b4-bacc-429bc4a6ac8f"}]},"item_1583103233624":{"attribute_name":"Thesis/dissertations","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_awarding_university":"Yangon University of Economics","subitem_supervisor(s)":[{"subitem_supervisor":"U Sun Htoo Aung"}]}]},"item_1583105942107":{"attribute_name":"Authors","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_authors":[{"subitem_authors_fullname":"Ei Thu Thu Htet"}]}]},"item_1583108359239":{"attribute_name":"Upload type","attribute_value_mlt":[{"interim":"Other"}]},"item_1583108428133":{"attribute_name":"Publication type","attribute_value_mlt":[{"interim":"Thesis"}]},"item_1583159729339":{"attribute_name":"Publication date","attribute_value":"2024-07-01"},"item_title":"Analysis of Individual Medical Expenditure in Tanintharyi Region.
