They are essential for planning and managerial improvement, as well as\npolicy making. This thesis aims to analyze cointegration and causality between export\nand import series of ASEAN countries, using the annual data from the United Nations\nDatabase from 1970 to 2021. Augmented Dicky Fuller test, Engle-Granger and\nJohansson Cointegration Test, Vector Error Correction Model, and Vector\nAutoregressive Model were applied in this study. According to the Augmented Dicky-\nFuller test, it was found that the export and import series have a unit root in level (not\nstationarity) but they are stationary at the first difference. Furthermore, the results of\nthe Engle-Granger two-step procedure, as well as Johansen's trace and maximum\neigenvalue test, simultaneously showed that cointegration had been found for\nSingapore and Thailand among the ten ASEAN countries. The cointegration test study\nrevealed that because of the cointegration relationship, Singapore and Thailand used\nthe VECM and both exports and imports made adjustments to their long-run\nequilibrium values. This study confirmed that the estimation results from the Vector\nAutoregressive (VAR) analysis of export to import had shown unidirectional causality\nfor Indonesia and Myanmar and bi-directional causality for Cambodia and Vietnam.\nBased on the findings, it is recommended that Singapore and Thailand should not be\nworried about their trade balance in the presence of cointegration. For Indonesia and\nMyanmar, as export causes import, the latter is dependent on the former. Thus, it is\nindicated that these two countries should promote export so that they can meet their\nimport demand. For Cambodia and Vietnam, as causality flows in both directions. In\nBrunei, Lao, Malaysia and Philippines, their trade balance as export and import are\nnot cointegrated and have no causality"}]},"item_1583103120197":{"attribute_name":"Files","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_access","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2023-11-29"}],"displaytype":"preview","filename":"Nwe Ni Aung, M.Econ(Stats), Roll No.4.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"993 KB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_0","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"url":"https://meral.edu.mm/record/9188/files/Nwe Ni Aung, M.Econ(Stats), Roll No.4.pdf"},"version_id":"24147931-5336-4183-8ffb-491486147f7e"}]},"item_1583103233624":{"attribute_name":"Thesis/dissertations","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_awarding_university":"Yangon University of Economics","subitem_supervisor(s)":[{"subitem_supervisor":"Daw Thida Win"}]}]},"item_1583105942107":{"attribute_name":"Authors","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_authors":[{"subitem_authors_fullname":"Nwe Ni Aung"}]}]},"item_1583108359239":{"attribute_name":"Upload type","attribute_value_mlt":[{"interim":"Other"}]},"item_1583108428133":{"attribute_name":"Publication type","attribute_value_mlt":[{"interim":"Thesis"}]},"item_1583159729339":{"attribute_name":"Publication date","attribute_value":"2023-10-01"},"item_title":"Cointegration and Causal Relationship Between Export and Import: Case Study in Asean (Nwe Ni Aung, 2023)","item_type_id":"21","owner":"20","path":["1582963436320","1707206634013"],"publish_date":"2023-11-29","publish_status":"0","recid":"9188","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["Cointegration and Causal Relationship Between Export and Import: Case Study in Asean (Nwe Ni Aung, 2023)"],"weko_creator_id":"20","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2024-05-27T03:54:50.271499+00:00"}
