The main purpose of this study is to investigate\nthe geologic, mineralogic and genetic aspects of corundum occurrences that enable for\nused as exploration guides and research works on other associated gemstone deposits\nthroughout Myanmar. This work encompasses the detailed field investigation, thin\nsection petrographic study, major and trace element geochemical analyses of rocks and\nmineral samples and inclusion study of corundum by using Laser Raman Spectroscopic\ntechnique.\nGeologically, the study area falls within the Mogok Metamorphic Belt (MMB)\nlying between Sagaing Fault and Shan Scarp, consisting of medium to high-grade\nmetamorphic rocks and intrusive igneous rocks. The Bawpadan-Chinthe Taung area\ncomprises mainly gneisses, marbles and calc- silicate rocks locally intruded by alkaline\ndykes and gran ites. Many aplite and pegmatite dykes, quartzofeldspathic and quartz veins\nalso intruded into the Mogok Metamorphic Belt.\nBased on the petrographic examination, number of (30) mineral assemblages were\nrecorded representing the metamorphic rocks of the study area. These mineral\nassemblages indicated that two types of metamorphic facies: upper amphibolite fac ies, in\nthe case of regional metamorphism (P-T range: 600-750°C, 4-8 kb) and pyroxenehornfels\nfacies for contact metamorphism (P-T range: 600-700°C, 1-2 kb ). The ruby\nbearing marble bands strikes 160° with 60° E dip, mainly consisted of coarse-grained\ncrystalline marble with phlogopite, diopside and graphite which are considered to be\nregional metamorphic origin belonging to the upper amphibolites facies.\nThe major and trace element analyses of corundum megacrysts and Laser Raman\nSpectroscopy for inclusion studies were carried out for better understanding in\npostulating the genesis of corundum deposits. The value of (Cr/Ga and Fe/Ti) in ruby\nindicates that the formation of ruby is a consequence of high-grade regional\nmetamorphism especially in the upper amphibolite facies of calcareous rocks enriched in\naluminum relative to silica, chromium and titanium.\nThe Laser Raman Spectroscopic analyses revealed that mineral inclusions, calcite,\nmuscovite, apatite, sericite, biotite, welgarite, orthoclase, unidentified sulphate minerals\nand chabasite by LRS method. C02 are a vapour (gas) phase in most rubies. Inclusions of\nchabasite and a small daughter crystal were also identified as diaspore. The presence of\ndiaspore, sericite and other sulphate mineral inclusions also indicate that the ruby in\nmarble was formed from metamorphism of clayey bands in the original limestone, the\nmain aluminum source for ruby. The ruby bearing bands are also concordant to the\nregional foliation trend of marble. Apatite inclusions in ruby also indicate that fluorine\nprobably acted as an activator for aluminum mobilization during pneumatolytic\nmetamorphic process leading finally to the formation of ruby."}]},"item_1583103108160":{"attribute_name":"Keywords","attribute_value_mlt":[{"interim":"The Bawpadan-Chinthe Taung, Mogok Stone Tract, Laser Raman Spectroscopic, Mogok Metamorphic Belt"}]},"item_1583103120197":{"attribute_name":"Files","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_access","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2023-07-04"}],"displaytype":"preview","filename":"Nwe Nwe Oo (Geo).pdf","filesize":[{"value":"1.5 MB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_0","url":{"url":"https://meral.edu.mm/record/8953/files/Nwe Nwe Oo (Geo).pdf"},"version_id":"6ad3472b-2b91-4939-8631-c8bcaf798402"}]},"item_1583103233624":{"attribute_name":"Thesis/dissertations","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_awarding_university":"University of Yangon"}]},"item_1583105942107":{"attribute_name":"Authors","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_authors":[{"subitem_authors_fullname":"New New Oo"}]}]},"item_1583159729339":{"attribute_name":"Publication date","attribute_value":"2010-05-30"},"item_title":"Mineralogic, Geologic and Genetic Aspects of Corundum Deposits, Bawpadan - Chinthe Taung Area, Mogok","item_type_id":"21","owner":"12","path":["1582967711045"],"publish_date":"2023-07-04","publish_status":"0","recid":"8953","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["Mineralogic, Geologic and Genetic Aspects of Corundum Deposits, Bawpadan - Chinthe Taung Area, Mogok"],"weko_creator_id":"12","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2023-07-04T16:21:45.021561+00:00"}
