The dimensions of women’s empowerment were categorized\ninto two parts: women’s control over own earnings, and women’s participation in household decisionmaking\n(decisions on major household purchases, visits to family or relatives, women’s own health care,\nand well-being of their children). These two dimensions were converted into an index of women’s\nempowerment. Binary logistic regression was used, by means of odds ratios, to assess the relationship\nbetween women’s level of empowerment and their socioeconomic and demographic characteristics.\nOverall, the results found a higher empowerment level associated with women’s employment, increased\nage, urban residence, higher educational attainment, higher wealth quintile, and lower level of husband’s\neducation. Also, women with one or two children, as well as women with three or four children, were more\nlikely to have a high level of empowerment, compared with women with no children. About three-fourths\nof the women in the sample lived in rural areas. Among women in rural areas, those found to have a higher\nlevel of empowerment had more education, were employed, and had higher household income. Generating\nemployment opportunities for women and educating women are important factors that can lead to an\nincrease in women’s income, and thus help raise levels of women’s empowerment.\nKEY WORDS: Women’s empowerment, socioeconomic and demographic characteristics, currently\nmarried women, binary logistic regression"}]},"item_1583103120197":{"attribute_name":"Files","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_access","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2023-06-08"}],"displaytype":"preview","filename":"Mya Thandar,WP143,8.6.2023.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"576 KB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_0","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"url":"https://meral.edu.mm/record/8909/files/Mya Thandar,WP143,8.6.2023.pdf"},"version_id":"7db8b43d-8e32-4ef7-93a0-bc1fa51e196a"}]},"item_1583103233624":{"attribute_name":"Thesis/dissertations","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_awarding_university":"Yangon University of Economics"}]},"item_1583105942107":{"attribute_name":"Authors","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_authors":[{"subitem_authors_fullname":"Mya Thandar"},{"subitem_authors_fullname":"Win Naing"},{"subitem_authors_fullname":"Hlaing Hlaing Moe"}]}]},"item_1583108359239":{"attribute_name":"Upload type","attribute_value_mlt":[{"interim":"Other"}]},"item_1583108428133":{"attribute_name":"Publication type","attribute_value_mlt":[{"interim":"Journal article"}]},"item_1583159729339":{"attribute_name":"Publication date","attribute_value":"2019-04-01"},"item_title":"Women's Empowerment in Myanmar:An Analysis of DHS Data For Married Women Age15-49 (Mya Thandar, Win Naing, Hlaing Hlaing Moe, 2019)","item_type_id":"21","owner":"20","path":["1582963436320","1582965786433"],"publish_date":"2023-06-08","publish_status":"0","recid":"8909","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["Women's Empowerment in Myanmar:An Analysis of DHS Data For Married Women Age15-49 (Mya Thandar, Win Naing, Hlaing Hlaing Moe, 2019)"],"weko_creator_id":"20","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2024-06-04T07:53:31.376891+00:00"}
