Myanmar is in the strategic\nlocation , in between China and India and bridge between the ASEAN , GMS\nand BIMSTEC and surrounding with most populated countries . Therefore ,\ndiversification of export item as well as new destinations are of most potential.\nThe obiective of the study is that Myanmar had exported a few products to a few\ncountries and there was no diversification at all since colonial period to the recent.\nCommodity pattern of Myanmar export has been changed enormously, but too-fewcommodity-\nto-too-few-country pattern was not much changed. Therefore, the\nobjectives of the study are to analyze commodity pattern and direction of recent\nMyanmar export in detail and identify to what extent Myanmar export structure is\ndiversified in order to point out the urgency of export diversification for Myanmar.\nMyanmar's export potential based on the bilateral export patterns is observed for six\nother countries in Southeast Asia and is found to be trading at about 15% its potential.\nUsing a gravity model the highly disaggregated trade data in the period from 2001 to\n2010 was analyzed.It was found that intensive margin is the most important share of\nthe trade growth.
