The study conducted to identify reason for self-medication among people, to assess the level of knowledge, belief and behavior on self-medication and to analyze the relationship between them and socio-economic characteristics of the people. Primary data was collected with structured questionnaires from first visited out-patients of Yangon General Hospital. Most of respondents use self-medication because of easily accessible, saving time and money and traditional behavior which is not related to the level of education and income. Among the respondents, it was found that 45% had the high level of knowledge, 51.8 % had high level of belief and 50.5% had high level of behavior on self-medication. And also indicated that the level of knowledge and belief have significant positive relationship with level of education.
