Picturesque juxtapositions of two cities – England and France, and of\naristocratic people and helpless laymen were vividly highlighted through the use of a wide range\nof symbols. In employing symbols, the writer used his unique art of writing which can help\nreaders visualize them in their mind‟s eye. This paper attempts to engage in a scientific\ninvestigation of Dickens‟ style in employing symbolism using a variety of structures and\nexpressions by means of WordSmith Tool developed by Scott (2015). It is an integrated suite of\nprogrammes for “looking at how words behave or are used in texts”. It has also been used by\nOxford University Press for lexicographic works and teachers and linguists in observing patterns\nfound in styles of writing. This research focused on three main areas of study related to corpus\nlinguistics namely – (i) Keyness, (ii) Collocation, and (iii) Concordance found in Dickens‟\nrepresentation of symbols. The results of the research showed that 9 out of 35 keywords in\nDickens Corpus prepared by Koguchi (2009) were found in symbolic representation in A Tale of\nTwo Cities. The most frequent concordance patterns were Article-the+Noun, Noun+Noun,\nAdjective+Noun and Preposition+Noun."}]},"item_1583103108160":{"attribute_name":"Keywords","attribute_value_mlt":[{"interim":"Symbolism"},{"interim":"Keyness"},{"interim":"Collocation"},{"interim":"Concordance"}]},"item_1583103120197":{"attribute_name":"Files","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_access","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2020-12-08"}],"displaytype":"preview","filename":"Su Khine Oo(Eng).pdf","filesize":[{"value":"296 Kb"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_0","url":{"url":"https://meral.edu.mm/api/files/3b67c3fe-8ce1-4698-8888-74251ce3dc4e/Su%20Khine%20Oo%28Eng%29.pdf"},"version_id":"173a41da-d7e4-4187-8d2f-01f450aafd9a"}]},"item_1583103131163":{"attribute_name":"Journal articles","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_issue":"2020","subitem_journal_title":"Yangon University of Foreign Languages Research Journal","subitem_pages":"11-24","subitem_volume":"Vol.11, No.1"}]},"item_1583105942107":{"attribute_name":"Authors","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_authors":[{"subitem_authors_fullname":"Su Khine Oo"}]}]},"item_1583108359239":{"attribute_name":"Upload type","attribute_value_mlt":[{"interim":"Publication"}]},"item_1583108428133":{"attribute_name":"Publication type","attribute_value_mlt":[{"interim":"Journal article"}]},"item_1583159729339":{"attribute_name":"Publication date","attribute_value":"2020-12-01"},"item_title":"A Corpus-Based Approach to Dickens‟ Style of Employing Symbolism in A Tale of Two Cities","item_type_id":"21","owner":"52","path":["1582963513162","1596101139671"],"publish_date":"2020-12-08","publish_status":"0","recid":"6676","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["A Corpus-Based Approach to Dickens‟ Style of Employing Symbolism in A Tale of Two Cities"],"weko_creator_id":"52","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2021-12-13T02:54:50.602324+00:00"}
