With the democratic transition process, the new government initiated a series of reforms, including the loosening of political and economic restrictions and the release of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi from house arrest. Following the 2012 by-election, the Japanese Foreign Minister Koichiro Gemba recognized the election as a notable step in Myanmar's democratic transition. In May 2013, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe paid an official visit to Myanmar. Its was the first visit of a Japanese prime minister since 1977, signifying Japan's return to Myanmar after long decades. During Prime Minister Abe's visit to Myanmar, he expressed his readiness to assist Myanmar government's efforts for democratization and to improve infrastructure development through Official Development Assistance (ODA). In 2016, Tokyo announced the plans to contribute 800 billion yen over five years at public and private levels, based on the \"Japan-Myanmar Cooperation Program\", to support Myanmar's efforts for peace, national reconciliation and economic development. Based on this background, the research question is that why Japan has played such a proactive role in Myanmar's democratic transition under the leadership off Prime Minister Shinzo Abe."}]},"item_1583103108160":{"attribute_name":"Keywords","attribute_value_mlt":[{"interim":"proactive"},{"interim":"democratic transition"},{"interim":"national reconciliation"},{"interim":"economic development"},{"interim":"Official Development Assistance (ODA)"},{"interim":"Indo-Pacific Strategy"}]},"item_1583103120197":{"attribute_name":"Files","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_access","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2020-11-23"}],"displaytype":"detail","filename":"ThantYinWin(IR).pdf","filesize":[{"value":"6.7 Mb"}],"format":"application/pdf","url":{"url":"https://meral.edu.mm/record/6542/files/ThantYinWin(IR).pdf"},"version_id":"6664dd26-77e1-45fe-ab85-8b773f05fd4f"}]},"item_1583103147082":{"attribute_name":"Conference papers","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_c_date":"6-7 January 2020","subitem_conference_title":"The 1st International Conference on Languages and Humanities","subitem_place":"Yangon"}]},"item_1583105942107":{"attribute_name":"Authors","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_authors":[{"subitem_authors_fullname":"Thant Yin Win"}]}]},"item_1583108359239":{"attribute_name":"Upload type","attribute_value_mlt":[{"interim":"Publication"}]},"item_1583108428133":{"attribute_name":"Publication type","attribute_value_mlt":[{"interim":"Book"}]},"item_1583159729339":{"attribute_name":"Publication date","attribute_value":"2020-01-06"},"item_title":"Japan's Proactive Role in Myanmar's Democratic Transition","item_type_id":"21","owner":"52","path":["1582963513162","1605868969446"],"publish_date":"2020-11-23","publish_status":"0","recid":"6542","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["Japan's Proactive Role in Myanmar's Democratic Transition"],"weko_creator_id":"52","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2021-12-13T00:52:15.205782+00:00"}
