However, many security issues still exist in the SDN architecture. To solve these issues, firewall is one of the most important SDN security applications. Firewall can be generally categorized into stateless and stateful depending on the capability of connection state tracking. Stateless firewall does not check the states of the connection session. As a result, it has some limitations in solving the security issues. But this limitation can be overcome by stateful firewall. An acl application has been implemented in Open Network Operating System (ONOS) as a stateless firewall. In order to increase the security level of acl application in ONOS, this paper proposes a stateful firewall. The firewall application is implemented by taking into account both security and performance perspectives in order to be a proper SDN security application.
