When President Thein Sein’s transition government (2011–16) began making peace overtures, the principle was widely embraced by EAOs and the military, and ultimately enshrined in the text of the NCA. When Aung San Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy (NLD) came to power in 2016 and made the peace process its top priority it, too, championed the principle of “all-inclusiveness.” However, as the NLD and the military struggle to convince more EAOs to sign the NCA, it has become apparent that, for all its good intentions, the principle of “all-inclusiveness” has become an obstacle to the peace process. This chapter reviews the peace process to date to examine the problems that have emerged around the concept of “all-inclusiveness.” Drawing on interviews with signatories of the NCA and other key stakeholders,1 the chapter highlights a central challenge confronting the government in its efforts to advance Myanmar’s stalled peace process."}]},"item_1583103108160":{"attribute_name":"Keywords","attribute_value_mlt":[{"interim":"Myanmar"},{"interim":"Ceasefire"},{"interim":"Peace"}]},"item_1583103120197":{"attribute_name":"Files","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[]},"item_1583103211336":{"attribute_name":"Books/reports/chapters","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_book_title":"Myanmar Transformed?:people, places and politics","subitem_isbn":"978-981-4818-55-1","subitem_pages":"P. 231–250","subitem_place":"Singapore","subitem_publisher":"ISEAS Publishing"}]},"item_1583105942107":{"attribute_name":"Authors","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_authors":[{"subitem_authors_fullname":"Lwin Cho Latt"},{"subitem_authors_fullname":"Ben Hillman"},{"subitem_authors_fullname":"Marlar Aung"},{"subitem_authors_fullname":"Khin Sanda Myint"}]}]},"item_1583108359239":{"attribute_name":"Upload type","attribute_value_mlt":[{"interim":"Publication"}]},"item_1583108428133":{"attribute_name":"Publication type","attribute_value_mlt":[{"interim":"Book section"}]},"item_1583159729339":{"attribute_name":"Publication date","attribute_value":"2018"},"item_1583159847033":{"attribute_name":"Identifier","attribute_value":"DOI:10.1355/9789814818551-014"},"item_title":"From Ceasefire to Dialogue: The Problem of “All-Inclusiveness” in Myanmar’s Stalled Peace Process","item_type_id":"21","owner":"14","path":["1582963390870","1582967653164"],"publish_date":"2020-10-17","publish_status":"0","recid":"5784","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["From Ceasefire to Dialogue: The Problem of “All-Inclusiveness” in Myanmar’s Stalled Peace Process"],"weko_creator_id":"14","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2022-03-24T23:13:18.724796+00:00"}
