It is a considerably challenging fieldto generate an intelligent computer that is able toidentify and understand human emotions forvarious vital purposes. This paper focuses onfacial expression to identify five universal humanexpressions: neutral, happy, anger, sad andsurprise. The proposed system uses a techniqueof image processing consisting of 3 majorprocesses: 1) pre-processing of images, 2)geometric feature extraction of eyes and mouthfrom images, used for a calculation of Euclideandistances between each feature; and 3) faceexpression recognition using principalcomponent analysis method. Especially, themovement of the mouth is investigated forexpression recognition in this paper.
