This study \nexamines the psycholinguistic impact of ambiguous headlines about Hollywood wildfires, \nfocusing on lexical and structural ambiguity. A survey was conducted to assess participants’ \ninterpretations, confidence levels, emotional reactions, and processing time for each headline. \nThe findings indicate that ambiguous headlines attract attention and engagement but can also \nlead to varied interpretations, sometimes causing misperception of the news event. Lexical \nambiguity, particularly metaphorical language, was the most frequent source of multiple \ninterpretations, while syntactic ambiguity played a lesser role. The study further highlights the \nemotional impact of crisis-related ambiguous headlines, revealing that they can heighten public \nconcern but also risk distorting reality. The study highlights ethical concerns regarding \nambiguity in crisis reporting, emphasizing the need for clearer journalistic practices to prevent \nmisinformation and unnecessary public distress. \""}]},"item_1583103108160":{"attribute_name":"Keywords","attribute_value_mlt":[{"interim":"ambiguity"},{"interim":"news headlines"},{"interim":"psycholinguistic"},{"interim":"lexical ambiguity"},{"interim":"syntactic ambiguity"}]},"item_1583103120197":{"attribute_name":"Files","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_access","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2026-07-07"}],"displaytype":"preview","filename":"A Study of Ambiguity in News Headlines of Hollywood Wildfire.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"434 KB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_0","url":{"url":"https://meral.edu.mm/record/12903/files/A Study of Ambiguity in News Headlines of Hollywood Wildfire.pdf"},"version_id":"977c4eeb-9fc1-4ad2-b76b-02a28c491326"}]},"item_1583103131163":{"attribute_name":"Journal articles","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_issue":"1","subitem_journal_title":"Yadanabon University Research Journal","subitem_pages":"71-82","subitem_volume":"15"}]},"item_1583105942107":{"attribute_name":"Authors","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_authors":[{"subitem_authors_fullname":"Thant Htet Htet Lin"},{"subitem_authors_fullname":"Khaing Thandar Kyaw"}]}]},"item_1583108359239":{"attribute_name":"Upload type","attribute_value_mlt":[{"interim":"Publication"}]},"item_1583108428133":{"attribute_name":"Publication type","attribute_value_mlt":[{"interim":"Journal article"}]},"item_1583159729339":{"attribute_name":"Publication date","attribute_value":"2026-06-07"},"item_title":"A Study of Ambiguity in News Headlines of Hollywood Wildfire","item_type_id":"21","owner":"228","path":["1582963788001","1582966193982"],"publish_date":"2026-07-07","publish_status":"0","recid":"12903","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["A Study of Ambiguity in News Headlines of Hollywood Wildfire"],"weko_creator_id":"228","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2026-07-07T04:18:53.733936+00:00"}
