EU was Myanmar’s transition partner which immediately responded to political situations in the country and offered considerable assistance for democratic and economic reforms as well as peace-building. EU was Myanmar’s fourth largest trade partner and also one of its highest aid donors at that moment. Despite uncertainty in the political relations with the Western Nations, EU suspended the sanctions on Myanmar in April 2012 and eventually removed them in April 2013. Concerning EU policy towards Myanmar is less concrete and progress toward democracy and human rights in the country is still a long way off. The economic cooperation has become the primary element in imposing soft sanctions on Myanmar. EU has been criticizing the Myanmar government under its norms, but it has not stopped helping and supporting civil society. Using a qualitative approach, this research observes the existing data regarding the EU’s approach, policy and aid assistance to Myanmar as well as other bilateral engagements between Myanmar and EU.\""}]},"item_1583103108160":{"attribute_name":"Keywords","attribute_value_mlt":[{"interim":"EU"},{"interim":"Myanmar"},{"interim":"peace"},{"interim":"democracy"},{"interim":"aid"},{"interim":"prosperity"}]},"item_1583103120197":{"attribute_name":"Files","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_access","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2025-06-12"}],"displaytype":"preview","filename":"European Union and Myanmar Relations EU as a Partnership.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"231 KB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_0","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"url":"https://meral.edu.mm/record/11081/files/European Union and Myanmar Relations EU as a Partnership.pdf"},"version_id":"9748986a-58ef-437c-8e77-bc77eb068f3b"}]},"item_1583103131163":{"attribute_name":"Journal articles","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_journal_title":"Naypyitaw State Academy Research Journal","subitem_pages":"32-45","subitem_volume":"1"}]},"item_1583105942107":{"attribute_name":"Authors","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_authors":[{"subitem_authors_fullname":"Thet Thu Thu Aye"},{"subitem_authors_fullname":"Win Win Khaing"},{"subitem_authors_fullname":"Aye Min Htun"}]}]},"item_1583108359239":{"attribute_name":"Upload type","attribute_value_mlt":[{"interim":"Publication"}]},"item_1583108428133":{"attribute_name":"Publication type","attribute_value_mlt":[{"interim":"Journal article"}]},"item_1583159729339":{"attribute_name":"Publication date","attribute_value":"2025-05-01"},"item_title":"\"European Union and Myanmar Relations: EU as a Partnership for Democracy, Peace and Prosperity (2011-2020)\"","item_type_id":"21","owner":"233","path":["1704332335426","1704445481401"],"publish_date":"2025-06-12","publish_status":"0","recid":"11081","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["\"European Union and Myanmar Relations: EU as a Partnership for Democracy, Peace and Prosperity (2011-2020)\""],"weko_creator_id":"233","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2025-06-13T03:40:04.220511+00:00"}
