<dc:title>Traditional Beliefs of the Mon nationals living in Hinthagon</dc:title>
          <dc:creator>Zin Mar Latt</dc:creator>
<dc:description>Traditional beliefs are beliefs that arise and develop in the history of the&#13; social group, and that are transmitted from one generation to the next&#13; through those social processes that are denoted by socialization. All the&#13; Mon nationals living in Hinthagon believe in Buddhism and worship the&#13; Buddha as the Enlightened One unique beyond comparison. However,&#13; most of them believe in their traditional spirits (Nats) propitiated from the&#13; time of their ancestors because they believe that it is connected with their&#13; health, economy and social activities. For this purpose, the objectives of&#13; this paper are to find out why they believe in traditional spirits (Nats),&#13; how they accept and practise the rites concerned with them, how the&#13; results relate to their daily life, and to elicit whether the tradition of spirit&#13; propitiation is one of the most important factors in maintaining their&#13; ethnic identity or not. To achieve the aim of this study, ethnographic&#13; method or qualitative method was used. By conducting this study, the&#13; connections between the traditional spirit propitiation and the socioeconomic&#13; life can be found out. And, who have the chance to inherit the&#13; spirit propitiation of Mon nationals can be elicited.</dc:description>
