The Implementation Role of Assessment in Teaching and Learning Contexts

The aim of this paper is to be aware of theimportant role of assessment in teaching and learningprocess to promote the performance of both EFLteachers and EFL students in technological andcomputer universities, Myanmar. Assessment isconcerned with the quality of teaching as well as thequality of learning. The relationship of teaching,learning and assessment practices would support indeciding what can or cannot be achieved in aparticular educational environment. Test plays a vitalrole in the teaching and learning environment. It caneffectively be used as a valuable teaching device. Bothteaching and testing are so closely interrelated that itis impossible to work in either field without beingconstantly concerned with the other. Tests can betaken on an additional role of assessing students’proficiency. Better teaching techniques are alsoconsidered to increase the proficiency of students in aschool year. Therefore, teachers always try to modifytheir teaching methods with motivating activities thatcan arouse students’ interests in language learningand assess their language performance. Overall, thispaper may be a handy device for both teachers andstudents to know the teaching methodologies, differentkinds of tests and the importance of assessment.
