Bidirectional Analyzer and Generator Tool for Kannada Nouns
Melinamath, Bhuvaneshwari C
This paper explores a computational modelfor Kannada nouns. This is a single toolperforming analysis and generation in reversedirection. Kannada has rich morphology withinflections -vibhakti, derivations and compoundformation. In depth study of words and itsstructures is done using this tool. Throughstudy of noun from computational linguisticspoint of view is important. An exhaustiveversion of the morphological analyzer andgenerator tool for nouns using FST is describedhere. Morphological analyzer/generator isdesigned to interface with a knowledge-basedmachine translation (MT) system. Our systemuses a hierarchy (tree) structure to relatevarious morphological features. Morphologicalanalyzer/generator for morphologicallycomplex and agglutinative language likeKannada is highly challenging. The major typesof morphological process like inflection, derivation, and compounding are handled inthis system. All these developments haveworked on the basis of syntactic structure ofKannada language. A robust analyzer is usefulfor language learning as well as for machinetranslation applications. The tool is testedagainst 10000 words and has 98% recognitionsuccess rate.
