Pre-copy Based Live Migration Using Lossless Compression Algorithm
Zaw, Ei Phyu
Virtualization is a methodology of logicallydividing computer resources. By emulating acomplete hardware system, from processor tonetwork card, each virtual machine can share acommon set of hardware. It allows multiple virtualmachines, with heterogeneous operating systems torun side by side on the same physical machine.Migration operation system instance across distinctphysical hosts is a useful tool for administrators ofdata centers. . Live migration is done byperforming most of the migration while theoperating system is still running, achieving verylittle downtime. By carrying out the majority ofmigration while OSes continue to run, we achieveimpressive performance with minimal servicedowntime and total migration time. In this paper,we propose the design, implementation, andevaluation of pre-copy based live migration usinglossless compression algorithm for virtualmachines (VMs) across a Gigabit LAN.
