The Study of bondage Thet-kayits from the town of Salin during the Konbaung Period Wai Wai Hein As the economy of the town of Salin1 during the Konbaung Period was based on agriculture, the majority of people were farmers. When the farmers encountered economic hardships due to a variety of reasons, they had to settle their difficulties by borrowing money through mortgaging their own lands or by borrowing paddy or by allowing the tenants to work their land for sharecropping.
