<dc:description>Information retrieval is one of the retrievalsystems which is browsing through documents andsearching for specific information. Informationretrieval systems are used to find the relevantinformation from the unstructured data orrecords. The system is intended to understand theinformation retrieval system by using thegeneralized vector space model and vector spacemodel. The main purpose of this system is to storeand index digital documents and then retrieve theinformation according to user’s query. Twomodels with cosine similarity coefficient are usedto search the relevant documents. The systemretrieves the PSC thesis paper according to theuser query by comparing these two models. Then, the system compares the GVSM’s ranked resultswith the VSM’s ranked results. In the system, 546documents are stored in database and tested withvarious threshold values. According to the overallresults, the GVSM’s recall value is better than thatof VSM and the VSM’s precision value is betterthan that of GVSM. So, GVSM can generate moresimilar results than VSM.</dc:description>
