TRANSIENT BOILING CRITICAL HEAT FLUX ON HORIZONTAL VERTICALLY-ORIENTED RIBBON IN A POOL OF WATER Min Han Htet ABSTRACT The deep understanding for transient pool boiling CHF phenomena and its correlation in water are becoming increasingly important as the fundamental database for the design of liquid cooling technologies. Transient critical heat flux (CHF) due to exponentially increasing heat inputs to a platinum ribbon in a pool of water were measured for subcoolings near atmospheric pressures. The exponential heat generation period was varied from 10 ms to 20 s. The horizontal vertically-oriented ribbon as a test heater was installed in boiling vessel. The values of contact angle and surface roughness were also measured in advance before pool boiling experiment.
