The Methodolog y in Doing Philosophy Khin Maung Win Myat Mon Oo Philosophy in the contemporary world has acquired peculiar characteristics . During the days of ancient Greeks , philosophy , science and mathematics : were inseparable . They all used speculative deduction as their method , and self - consistency as their testing ground . They are now separated from one another . Th e truth - values of science are now determine d by experimentation , and t hose of mathematics are now decided by formal demonstration . As these two testing grounds are not suited for philosophy to test its truth - values , it has to devise its own method and testing ground . . Philosophical problems are not factual problems n or problems of just formal demonstration .They are problems of values , or attitudes , or interpretations . The met hod that c a n deal with these problems is the reflective method .
