          <dc:title>Breeding for Economically Valuable and High Yielding Varieties of Corn at Maubin University</dc:title>

Prome (PROp) and 4. The⁄Kone (TKO) were grown in field plots at Maubin
University Campus. Ten plants for each genotype were grown in rows, and
plants in each row represent for a specific genotype. A total of three field plots
were grown as replicates in June 2019. Open pollination between the plants
within the field plots (Natural hybridization between the plants from all the
different genotypes) resulted. Self-pollination within the same plants among all
the genotypes were also effected, thus produced selffed seeds (kernels). Three
specific hybrids between the genotypes from Canada; Oakpho; Prome and
The⁄Kone were also produced and generated as F2 population. A population of
fifty individuals cobs (F2 population) with a large number variability, with
respect to different cob shape and size; different kernel (seed) size, shape and
colour were selected from these F2 population. These populations of F2 kernels
(seeds) represented a very high degree of variable genotypes of corn. It is highly
probable that the diverse genotypes in the variable kernels (seeds) that were
generated should give rise to many different plant types, from which desirable
genotypes of corn plants will be selected for the ongoing Breeding Project.
